Love Letters from the Man Cave–Part 2

For lovers of the 50’s we present The Black 57 Chevy Golf Cart!

This cart was the result of months of hard labor–purchasing a rough fiberglass front/rear form, priming, sanding, sanding again, fiberglassing with resin, moving the battery box/seat backward so that the back wheels are centered in the wheel wells, constructing a rounded brow to modernize the boxy look, fabricating fiberglass panels for the dashboard, constructing braces to support the body in the correct position, fashioning roof mounts at the right height and cutting into the body where the mounts came thru. Purchased and mounted side pipes with heat shields on driver/passenger sides. There are no decals used on this vehicle, all details are painted on using metallic paints, black paint with pearls (provides the glittery look under the topcoats), and the 3D effects on the Belair fins highlight the painter’s artistic skills, the air brushed finish even shows some star sparkle details on the entire cart.

This golf cart has a ton of detail–Belair fins, side moldings, hood bullets, Chevrolet V, V8 signage, black and white 57 Chevy license plate, etc. etc.
The rear view is as detailed as the front of the cart, even sports a genuine trunk lock! Looks like a miniature auto!
The dashboard sports a 100 mph speedometer and the classic Chevy V8 logo! Cut the stock burlwood dash from the original cart to provide a modernized look. The body parts fit an older version of a Club Car and the dash especially had to be formulated to feature a rounded, newer profile than many of the 57 Chevy carts seen on the internet. Love mixing the old with the new!

My husband’s grandfather owned a 55 Chevrolet, and he has many fond childhood memories of driving to Walker Park with him! He studied his grandfather shifting gears and clutching before he was even able to drive himself. A gear-head in the making! Car afficianado and future drag racer!

The front end features glass headlights and a reproduction chevrolet emblem in red, white and blue! Even younger kids who do not know what model car this is enjoy the look of the finished product!

The golf carts in their setting–paint jobs gleaming in the neon lights!

The 57 Chevy and his younger brother, the grim reaper quadtrack!
The two tone upholstered seat had to be repainted solid black with fabric paint! Just another detail to deal with in changing two stock looking golf carts into these car carts!

This 57 Chevy and the ZL1 Camaro golf cart in the previous post mark the official end of golf-cart transformations! Do not plan any further marathons of sanding, primering, fiberglassing, and sanding again! Time to ride around the neighborhood and enjoy the fruits of the labor!!
